Los Angeles: “To Be Published or Self-Publish? Options for Artist” at ARTBOOK @ Paper Chase, July 11th
Coauthors Mary Virginia Swanson and Darius Himes will give a 30-minute visual presentation for artists who wish to bring their art work to book form, discussing both traditional publishing and self-publishing avenues towards helping determine the pros/cons of each path. Following their lecture, MVS and DH will lead a discussion with industry professionals involved in making, distributing and selling of art books: Nicole Katz, cofounder Paper Chase Press; Mathew Swenson, Creative Director, Paper Chase Press; Jane Brown, Director, ARTBOOK | D.A.P. (Distributed Art Publishers); and Tosh Berman, Book Buyer, Book Soup. Time will be allotted for Q&A. Copies of Publish Your Photography Book will be available for purchase at the event.
Nicole Katz is the owner of Paper Chase Press and Eighth Veil. Founded by Nicole’s family in 1976, Paper Chase combines its commercial press and bindery with Eighth Veil’s program of exhibitions and publications on contemporary art.
Mathew Swenson is the creative director of Paper Chase Press and founder of Paper Chase Intelligence (PCI). PCI is a creative services bureau that offers its clients access to freelancers like writers, designers, and photographers without the typical bureaucracy of an agency. Through PCI he, provides guidance to grow his clients’ brands through marketing and social networking initiatives.
Jane Brown is Vice President, National Accounts Director and Director of ARTBOOK @ Paper Chase. She’s been a sales director at D.A.P. (now called ARTBOOK | D.A.P.) since 2002. Founded in 1990, ARTBOOK | D.A.P. has grown into a major international distributor of books, special editions and rare publication from an array of the world most respected publishers, museums and cultural institutions.
Tosh Berman is the publisher and editor for TamTam Books, as well as the book buyer for Book Soup, an independent bookstore in West Hollywood. Tosh is currently working on a book on the band ‘Sparks’ as well as a memoir “My Struggle” of his teenage/childhood years.
